Welcome to the August issue of Stepping Into The Magic Of You!.

Don’t you just love it when you get really good service in a restaurant, or a free gift popped into the bag when you make a purchase?  Getting that extra bit of attention can make us feel special.  I would also suggest giving of our best makes us feel good too.  So why don’t we do it all the time?  I thought I’d explore that a little this month.

Going the Extra Mile

Have you ever stopped to consider what inspires you to be your best?  What motivates you to do that bit extra, maybe even go beyond what you think you are capable of?

Have you noticed that when you really care about something or someone, you’ll move heaven and earth to make that special occasion fantastic.  I think the key here is caring.  It’s easy to become complacent, to get into a rut - I mean routine!  I know my tendency is to stay inside my comfort zone, but do you know what?  It’s the kiss of death being there.  Because you know what happens when you get nice and comfy?  That’s right you fall asleep.  Metaphorically speaking most of us spend a lot of time asleep even when we’re awake.

So how do you get to feel alive and sparkling?  Well one way is to put the meaning back into our lives.  Have you checked out your values recently?  What do you really have to have going on in your life to feel that life is worth living?  Giving and receiving love might be at the top of your list.  Being healthy is pretty important too.  Are honesty and truth essential values for you?

We may have similar values, but I suspect we might rank their importance differently.  Integrity might be at the top of one person’s list of values whilst freedom might be higher on someone else’s list.  Key values for me are variety, independence and freedom.

The next question to ask yourself is am I living by my values?  Am I honouring them?  I would say that if you’re not, you may well be selling yourself (and the rest of us) short.  I’ve had two jobs in my life that were monotonous.  Gradually over time I started to make mistakes, I also felt very tired during the day and started having a nap after lunch and then felt sluggish and a bit down.  I was shutting down!  Since becoming a coach I also know now that I was crushing my value of having variety in my life.  Now that I know that I can make sure that I create a full and varied week.

Unlocking your enthusiasm and energy, will motivate you to be your best and give of your best!  Have you noticed that when you’re doing something you love you have loads more energy too?

What are your top five values?
What values have you honoured so far today?

There’s an inspirational website, which features short films (6 or 7 minutes long) celebrating what makes people feel truly alive.  Some of the films are about big themes others are quirky, all are thought provoking.  Curious?  Have a look at www.monday9am.tv
My favourites so far are the film with Timothy Galway (author of the Inner Game of Tennis) and Brandon Bays (creator of The Journey) there is a delightful film about the original Richard & Judy too!  I’d love to know which films touch you.  My email is maria@creating-results.co.uk

if we do it well, it may soon become the step
that will lead us to better things.

In last month’s issue I talked about atoning, getting back to speaking with one voice.  Thank you Emma for emailing your thoughts.

“…thanks for the latest edition of your newsletter – I love to read it, you remind me to look after myself – and this month I sat down to read it while eating my lunch.  I have made an agreement with myself to eat consciously and stop when I am full – as per paul mckenna’s eating plan – however, I continually let myself down and feel bad about it – doing a chore to atone and remember to keep the agreement from then on is a fab. idea, so thanks for that…she went on to write  “…If I had to atone for all the stuff I have done that makes me feel bad I may as well become a monk (a guilty catholic one!!) – so I will employ your great idea as from now!”  Reproduced with permission.

If you have any comments about anything in this newsletter, or anything else that you’d like to share, please get in touch, I’d love to hear from you!
